The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report addressing global climate system and climate change
Of the nine African sub-regions, the IPCC noted an observed increase in extreme rainfall for just two — western and eastern southern Africa.
The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), written by 234 scientists, said global warming of about 1.1 degrees Celsius has brought many changes in different regions – from more severe droughts and storms to rising seas.
“Africa is most affected yet least responsible for climate change. Sadly it is also producing the least scientific research, and this lack of scientific research is hurting the region’s ability to adapt,” said Mohammed Adow, Director of the Nairobi-based Power Shift Africa.
“Nobody is safe and it’s getting worse faster,” added Inger Andersen, executive director of the U.N. Environment Programme.
